Underpainting

My current progress with my still life oil painting is the underpainting. After stretching and priming the canvas, I painted it orange. The orange underpainting will bring together the colors of the painting when I'm finished because its warmth will tie in more than just a white background. Next, I sketched out my still life with charcoal and then worked on the details of the shadows and highlights with brown and white paint. The process of making the underpainting with oranges and browns is called "brunaille."Next week, I will begin adding color to my painting.
