This week's lunchtime lecture was about the Tibetan artist Tsherin Sherpa, who currently has an exhibition at the VMFA. I thought the different ways he used thangka painting in his career was really interesting, such as when he made ad posters for Jamba Juice. Both his traditional and contemporary works are so unique but connected, and the range of his pieces are very impressive. The aspect of Sherpa's work that I liked the most is his use of color. I think his variety of colors in his art makes everything look beautiful and unique, while still cohesive as an exhibit. The way he used his culture and its traditional artwork in his contemporary pieces is amazing, and it was really interesting to learn about his creative journey.
