Ming Ying is a 28 year old surrealist artist born in China and based in London. Through vibrant paintings that combine abstraction and figuration, “Ming reflects on the feelings of alienation experienced by different races, cultures, and distinct social classes who find themselves distanced from new surroundings” and represents “the complex tension between feelings of enjoyment and detachment throughout society.”

I recently discovered Ying's work, and I love the way she uses color and texture to portray emotions behind her art. Additionally, it appealed to me because she also works with the idea of isolation and surrealism, which is something I would like to similarly do. Her mainly monochromatic color schemes are very visually appealing and contribute to her art. Overall, I really love the themes she works with and the way she portrays different emotions and scenes.
